- The Khmer New Year, also known as Choul Chnam Thmey and Moha Sangkranta, is the traditional celebration of the solar new year in Cambodia. (April 13 to April 16) This three-day holiday marks the end of the harvest season and allows farmers to enjoy the fruits of their labor before the rainy season begins.
- Moha Sangkranta: The first day of the New Year celebrations, Moha Sangkranta signifies the end of the year and the beginning of a new one. People dress up, light candles, and burn incense at shrines. Families pay homage to the Buddha by bowing, kneeling, and prostrating three times before his image. For good luck, people wash their faces with holy water in the morning, their chests at noon, and their feet at night before bed.
- Veareak Vanabat: On the second day, Veareak Vanabat, people offer charity to the less fortunate?they help the poor, servants, the homeless, and low-income families. Families also participate in initiation ceremonies to honor their ancestors at monasteries.
- Veareak Laeung Sak: On the third day, Veareak Laeung Sak, Buddha statues and elders are washed with perfumed water.
