Issue Notice:
- The fishing cat (Prionailurus viverrinus) is a wild cat species native to South Asia, primarily inhabiting wetlands. Since 2016, the fishing cat has been listed on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.The fishing cat is related to the leopard cat, but significantly larger.
- The fishing cat's fur is olive-gray with darker stripes across the shoulders and neck, which fade into elongated patches on the sides and legs. The belly is white. The chest and throat are marked with bands of dark spots. Its head is long and narrow.
- It cannot fully retract its claws and has less pronounced webbing between its toes than the leopard cat.
- Weighing 5?16 kg and with a head-body length of 57?78 cm, it is about twice the size of a domestic cat. Its tail is relatively short at 20?30 cm. Its shoulder height is approximately 35 cm.
- The average lifespan of females is given as 12.6 years, and that of males as 10 years.
