Issue Notice:
  • In Myanmar on April 17, 2019 with the Thingyan Festival, the Burmese New Year celebration takes place. This celebration is also known as Water Festival. Thingyan is the most important holiday of the country, which is located on the border with Thailand. Due to the particularly high temperatures in April, water is an integral part of the festival. Whether with buckets or hoses: water battles are allowed and desired and especially widespread in the big cities.
  • Thingyan is celebrated several days in a row, with the fixed dates of the celebrations 13th to 16th April was determined. On the 17th of April the water festival takes place and the new year begins. The Burmese month in which the holiday falls is called Tagu. The Buddhist festival lasts for a total of up to five days, as part already celebrated before. In addition to the water events, there are also parades through the cities where loud music is played and danced, similar to the German carnival. In general, the festival is comparable to the Thai Songkran.
