  • India and Lao PDR share close civilizational ties reflected in common heritage of Buddhism and Ramakien (Ramayana).
  • India has shown strong, steadfast support to training and capacity building in Lao PDR. More than 1,500 officials have been trained under Indian Technical Economic Cooperation Programme.
  • Eighteen ICCR/MGC scholarships are given annually. Lao-India Entrepreneurship Development Centre (LIEDC) was set up in November 2004 and has trained more than 15,000 persons.
  • The Centre for Excellence in Software Development and Training (CESDT) set up in Vientiane in November 20-18 has trained about 221 Lao nationals. Line of Credits worth USD 236.23 million have been extended/offered to Laos for irrigation schemes, power transmission and distribution, and solar and hydroelectric projects.
  • Thirty six Quick Impact Projects under Mekong-Ganga Cooperation (MOO) Framework have been approved for Laos, out of which 22 are completed and 14 are under implementation. Since 2006, restoration and conservation of Vat Phou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Lao PDR is being undertaken by ASI.
  • India gifted a consignment of medicines and medical supplies to Lao PDR in 2020 and 50,000 doses of Covovax vaccines were gifted to Lao PDR in 2023. In 2024, a ran USD grant funded by India- UN Development Partnership Fund for the Food Fortification Project in Lao PDR was approved. Laos greatly appreciates India's support to its development.
  • The two countries have also supported each other at multilateral fora.
