Coronation of RAMA X

To Coronation the Thailand Post issued a special stamp. The stamp was printed on 160g paper with "Metallic" effect and embossed with 14K gold. Already shortly after the appearance of the stamp it was sold out on most provincial post offices.

BANGKOK: For the first time in nearly 70 years, a king is crowned again in Thailand - a ceremony with many rituals, ceremonies and great pomp. Rama X is now in office and dignity.

But the celebrations continue. Thailand has again a crowned monarch. In a solemn ceremony, King Maha Vajiralongkorn crowned himself on Saturday at the Grand Palace in Bangkok. Thus, the almost 67-year-old, who has officiated for over 2 years, now all the dignity and authority of the Thai king. Maha Vajiralongkorn is now the tenth king in the history of the Chakri Dynasty and is nicknamed RAMA X. For the majority of Buddhist Thailand, this has been the first coronation for nearly 70 years. The actual coronation ceremony lasted several hours. At the beginning of the ceremony, Rama X. was cleaned and anointed by monks with water from all 76 provinces of Thailand. He wore the simple monk's robe of a novice.

Afterwards, he enters the throne in full official robe. By tradition, he set the crown himself. The "Great Crown of Victory" is over 65 cm high, well over 7 kg heavy and studded with precious gemstones.

During the ceremonies, the palace was closed to the public. Nevertheless, the palace was surrounded by tens of thousands of yellow-dressed onlookers (yellow is the traditional color of the royal family). The army escorted the Cermonians with countless salute shots.

The king appeared after the ceremonies in the "ivory" -colored "Rolce Royce, along with Queen Suthida and his youngest son Prince Dipangkorn Rasmijoti, who is attending school in Bavaria and presumably becomes heir to the throne.

A few days earlier, Rama X married his partner, Queen Suthida, a former Thai Airways stewardess and general of the personal bodyguard of the new king. The new king is the only son of King Bhumibol and Queen Sirikit.

His Majesty is called in full length Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodin Dradebaya Warangkun, Free Translated "King of Lightning, descendant of Almighty Deities".

Traditionally, on Saturday at the end of the ceremonies, the family and guests had to prostrate themselves before the newly crowned king. From the palace grounds (Sanam Luang) were 21 salute shots to hear.

In Bangkok, the celebrations on Sunday reach their peak. King Maha Vajiralongkorn, the newly crowned monarch, is carried on a gilded litter in full regalia, along with a royal ceremony hat, seven kilometers through Bangkok and receives the homage of his subjects. Also on Sunday, temperatures of more than 40 degrees are reached, which should be a major operation for the helpers and rescue workers.
